The weekend came and went. Time sprang forward. I bought a new fancy toilet seat that closes silently on its hinges. Wardell took a bunch of amazing outfit photos for me and I somehow corrupted the files before I could transfer them to my computer. I didn't do my taxes. Most importantly, I partied with Isabella, who turned three.

Two new shows on my radar: Audrina (yes, ceiling eyes is back) and another piece of televised fuckery called Saddle Ranch, which as far as I can tell is about a bunch of people with Daddy Issues who work at a bar in LA with a mechanical bull and like to punch each other repeatedly. Words cannot express (at least not in the order I'd be prone to putting them) how much I love truly bad TV. And I'm not even talking so bad it's good TV. I'm talking so-bad-it's-actually-alarming-especially-if it-says-something-about-modern-society-and-holy-shit-WHAT-ABOUT-THE-CHILDREN?!?! tv. Generally, if it's raising eyebrows and setting off high alerts at the CDC (see: Jersey Shore, Teen Mom) I'm all over it.

Anyway, that has nothing to do with the sick open weave sweater I'm wearing above, but just wanted to share in case someone was taking notes. If it ever gets warm enough to wear with one of my maxi dresses (cc: Stacy) I will definitely do it. As it is, I think there's about to be a tornado outside my house, so if you'll excuse me, I must take cover.

wearing vintage slip, Forever 21 petticoat, Steven by Steve Madden ballet flats, vintage necklace

I got suspended from school in 9th grade for wearing this slip as a dress. Then I used it for a Halloween costume one year and covered it in fake blood which miraculously came out in the wash. Now I use it for more civilized purposes, like wearing under sheer dresses. I added the Forever 21 petticoat just to give my vintage shirt dress a little extra 'Betty Draper' in the skirt. Because you can never have too much Betty Draper.

Wearing fussy underthings makes me feel all ladylike and shit.

Not that you were keeping track, but I technically haven't bought a single item of clothing since February 1st.  Until now. Last week's Gilt sale on Tucker dresses and blouses turned out to be a little more than I could handle and I purchased the blouse below from the label's Fall 2010 collection:

I'm proud of myself anyway though. Still haven't dropped a dime at Forever 21, H&M, or Target this year, despite having entered a quite expansive new Forever 21 store and visiting the website on a couple of occasions. So, ya know, woo hoo for that.

a look back

A self-indulgent look back at a few sartorial high points of the past year. This year my style resolutions are:

- Find a good cobbler and take better care of my shoes--no more walking on shredded heels and cracked leather
- Avoid any style that makes me look 20 lbs. heavier or 6 inches shorter than I actually am. I'm too old for that ish
- Try paring down my style (not comfortable with the word "minimalism yet") while still keeping it luxe and interesting
- Avoid fast fashion. It's the clothing equivalent of McDonalds: easy to get, terrible waste of resources
- Stock up on well-made, timeless basics (white button-downs, wool trousers) and don't be afraid to pay a little more for them

What are yours?

Wearing F21 tank dress, ASOS cardigan, vintage belt, H&M shoes, vintage bag

Enjoying the sun drenched side streets in San Jose this weekend on my way to a friend's house for UFC 118 (where Frankie Edgar defeated BJ Penn in the saddest, most heartbreaking way possible, and Randy Couture put a whole bunch of whoop ass on a doughy boxer who should have known what was coming to him). Ok I'm done geeking out now.

I drunkenly bought this tank dress on Friday during a post-happy hour Forever 21 run. It's basically an extra long glorified wife beater, which I love except for the fact that it's slightly see through in the rear region, necessitating a pair of black biker shorts to avoid looking like one of San Jose's Finest.*

Let's all have a fantastic week everybody!

*San Jose's Finest is an epithet assigned to anyone who looks like a ho in broad daylight, has a serious case of muffin tops, is blasting Trey Songz on her Samsung in Target, or cussing out a child that ends up being her own offspring. In no way do I mean to indicate that everyone in San Jose is this classless, just that there's an awful lot of them.

It's time to cross "stylish poncho" off the list of words that should never be seen together. It's a new age people.

And, because I feel like it, a quote of the day by the poetic, highly philosophical Kate Moss: "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels."

Clearly, she's never sampled the rare delicacy known as bacon-wrapped hot dogs, because if she had, she wouldn't be extolling the virtues of "feeling skinny" aka gas, grumpiness, and bad breath, over the deliciousness of pig parts wrapped in--pig parts. Yummm.

is it hot in here, or is it just me?

...Or is it the fact that I've been watching For the Love of Ray J for the past hour? Hm... I'm going to go with, it's just hot in here. Because it's 9:30 but it's still damn near 80 degrees. I am ill equipped to deal with a heat surge of this magnitude, but I'm trying to cope by doing as little moving as possible and eating ice cream bars. I wish I had a fan.

I just found out I landed a second interview at the company I interviewed with last week. I also have to do a writing sample for them and hand it in by Friday. Oh god, it's so close, I can taste it. I dare not imagine what would happen if I don't get this job. I'm trying to think only good thoughts.

Today's outfit of shorts and a t-shirt is really not worth documenting on film. So instead, these are pictures from Sunday dinner at my parent's house. Just hangin' with Kobe on the front porch. Isn't he impossibly handsome?

la la land

Photobucket
wearing Banana Republic striped sweater, F21 skirt and shoes, "faux-lenciaga" bag (even though "fakes are never in fashion)...

Sorry for being AWOL for the past few days. I'm in L.A. right now (er, Burbank if we're going to get technical about it) with my boyfriend and two other couples, and we're going to Disneyland tomorrow! Because why not? As they say in a little film called Friday, "you ain't got no job...and you ain't got shit to do." So when I ain't got shit to do, I go on the Dumbo Ride. Because that's how I roll.

Today we did the total L.A. touristy stuff because I've only been down here like 5 times and I'd never seen the handprints outside Grauman's Chinese Theater and all that other bullshit. We also went to Sprinkle's cupcakes where I tasted the best red velvet cupcake I've ever had in my entire pathetic life. And speaking of red velvet, I saw Phoebe Price posing for photogs on Rodeo Drive. Doesn't get much more L.A. than that, if you ask me. God, I could never live here.

I promise to get up to speed on comments when I get back on Monday. I still love everyone!

diamonds and pleather

wearing DIY necklace, AA grey tee, J Brand jeans, F21 boots, vintage bracelets, Timex watch

Rocked the 'Tom Binns' style necklace today with a plain grey t-shirt. Is there any other way? Seriously, I'm not sure I would love this necklace as much if I wore it with a fancy little cocktail dress. It would be so...predictable.

Today was also a big day for my F21 boots. I attended a school play put on by a friend's daughter's second grade class, which drew lots of stares and whispers from the girls when they laid eyes on them in all their fringed glory. It was pretty funny actually. Everywhere I went, heads spun around, mouths dropped, eyes widened. I'm pretty sure there's a genetic component to shoe fetishism. And by pretty sure I mean 100% without a doubt.

I also received my very first award from Through the Looking Glass today! I sort of feel like I got voted homecoming queen or something. So thank you thank you thank you! From the bottom of my heart, I am honored, humbled, and flattered that you thought of me! I got nothin' but love for you sistah!

Here are four other blogs that I've got nothin' but love for:

I'm sure you've all received this award before, but never from me, so treasure it dammit!

wearing F21 tank, DIY bleached Topshop jeans, Urban Outfitters corset bra, Minnetonka moccasins, unknown scarf, Timex watch, Lisa Levine bracelet, Banana Republic thick silver cuff, vintage silver cuff

Random outfit post from this weekend. I took advantage of the freaking stellar weather by biking all over town with the BF. By chance, we came across a book sale at San Jose State, where I picked up a number of volumes for a dollar apiece. Wardell had to strap them all to the luggage rack on his bike to get them home. I thought they looked rather cute perched up there, so I snapped a pic.

Oh, and I had a blast in the Castro last night. Amazing time, great dancing. The night ended on a slightly sour note when I had to walk home uphill for ten blocks because I couldn't get a freaking cab. The good news: I was wearing the F21 boots and ended up with nary a blister in sight! They really are comfortable, as well as absurdly hot. I did post some pictures of the fuckery from last night, until I realized they made my blog look like a damn Myspace page. Not cool.
