calmate guey

Mira! Mexico was a wondrous journey away from my iphone and towards total and utter relaxation. We spent the majority of our time in the picturesque town of Tulum, about two hours south of the Cancun airport. It is, quite literally, a chickens-in--the-road kind of town where they only take cash and time merely plods along as opposed to sweeping your feet out from under you and punching you in the solar plexus. In fact, the only thing I did with any kind of rapidity while there was burn through 900-pages of Shantaram. Here's what it looked like:

Beach combing in a vintage caftan I purchased last time I was in Palm Springs. I'll give you one guess whether I have ever worn it before, and whether I'll ever wear it again... (hint: San Francisco is currently 58 degrees) IMGP4705 IMGP4697

remotely

wearing vintage sweater, Topshop vest, J Brand jeans, vintage necklace

Been testing out my new wireless remote for the Pentax-- clearly something that I have not yet mastered.

Side note: holyfuckingshit Japan just got hit with The Big One. My thoughts go out to everyone affected, especially my colleagues at Ustream Japan. I can't even really process all the damage I'm seeing on the news. I hope it's not as bad as it looks.

This leopard print coat is awesome--unfortunately I never wear it because it sheds this fine red dust that no amount of dry-cleaning seems able to remove. I guess this means not every internet purchase turns out to be a good one. I feel like my world has been turned upside down. Hold me.

On a happier note, the "getting to know my camera" phase is progressing nicely. I fully expect to be the next Tommy Ton within 3 weeks.

learning curve

ring, obligatory "look at me, I have a camera and I can take a picture of myself" photo, cherry blossoms outside my living room window, and the cutest little dog mustache you'll ever see (Kobe)

A few images taken with my brand spankin' new DSLR. Even though I took photography in high school, I still feel like a complete novice when it comes to operating this thing. Whoever claimed these cameras were idiot proof was a liar.

Ok, I'm too exhausted right now to make any pointed comments about the Grammys, so let's leave that for another day. I will however, make one comment and that is: Gwyneth Paltrow WHAT THE FUCK?

sacrifices

I had to have these pants when I found them at What Poppy Wants this weekend because they fit like a dream, they were hemmed to my exact height, and they fit in with one of my main style resolutions of 2011--to purchase quality clothing even if it costs more. These happened to not cost very much, which made it all that much easier to take them home.

In other news, I also found a gorgeous Chanel blouse (also from What Poppy Wants) and finally purchased a DSLR (the Pentax k-x!) which should arrive in a few days. In other other news, I will now commence eating ramen noodles and canned tuna. My financial situation is suddenly less beefy.
