21 jumpsuit

Well imagine my utter delight when I was at What Poppy Wants a couple of weeks ago, and found what looked like the perfect 60's Studio 54 approved maxi dress-looking thing was actually a jumpsuit. A JUMPSUIT! What else left to do but don it with fake eyelashes and tassel earrings for a Passover Seder?

Also: I've just mastered the sock bun, which is literally changing my life. My buns were so pathetic and small before, but now I can beef them up with tube socks, trouser socks, or any kind of sock I want! The possibilities are endless...

Anastasia of Beverly Hills beauty express kit in brunette

When I was a kid, I had horrible caterpillar eyebrows (and no, I will not show you pictures). It didn't take me long to figure out that achieving social acceptance would be greatly expedited by the liberal and frequent use of tweezers. What followed was a period where I had, for lack of a better description, sperm eyebrows. You know the kind--big bulbs at the front followed by the thinnest line of hair. I stopped short of using a sharpie to fill in the overplucked areas (thank God) but still somehow fell victim to brown lipliner. But I digress...

The point is that it's taken me a long damn time to get my brows in any kind of decent shape. By and large, I was able to re-grow the thinner areas to some semblance of normalcy, but more recently I've noticed some areas thinning out, so I've actually started filling them in with brow powder to make them more uniform. Enter the Beauty Express Kit from Anastasia Beverly Hills. Anastasia's team was kind enough to send me a kit to try out, and I've pretty much been using it ever since. It's not just a brow powder either--there's a wax (for helping the powder adhere and keeping brows from getting all bushy-like), an excellent matte and shimmer eyeshadow to set off the brow bone, and stencils for helping you choose the best shape to aim for. I've been neglecting all my eye makeup for just the ingredients in this kit for the past few weeks, and I have to say I'm a new convert to the "done-up brows" look. You kind of don't need anything but brows and mascara anyway.

Love everything about this: the nails (of course), the makeup, the light, the hair, the pained expression on the model's face...it's all pretty much perfect.

Sorry for the lack of posting (because I'm so sure you're at home right now clutching a bottle of wine in one hand and a box of tissues in the other, wailing to the heavens now that MY MAGNIFICENT VOICE is no longer echoing across the internets).  Unfortunately outside forces have conspired to keep me on long, profanity laced phone calls with Comcast because my internet and cable don't work. Oh, and my computer is out of memory and cannot handle one more picture, so I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of an external hard drive. Things are malfunctioning. We should be back to regular irregularly scheduled programming shortly.

Oddly depressing weekend. Sunday night. Harrumph.

Grey lipstick and bruise-colored eyeshadow have never seemed so fitting.

it's the most wonderful time of the year

wearing Kryolan aqua color makeup, thrifted skirt and top, Saks Fifth Avenue scarf, earrings made by my sister, DIY tissue paper flowers (Tara is one hell of an Indian warrior princess)

Halloween eve had me navigating public transportation with a bunch of horny costumed Chilean Miners, sneaking into a party via a chain link fence and a parked van, and dancing to godawful hipster techno on a rooftop. If this was any other weekend I would consider it a resounding failure. But it's not. It's Halloween. Stakes is low.

My makeup turned out pretty awesome if I don't say so myself. I had a dry run on Friday at a work costume contest, where I took home the top prize of a new ipod touch, which I desperately needed so, WIN.

Also, my friends were Two A-holes from SNL and in character all night. It was awesome.

sugar skulls

Deeply inspired by the work of artist Sylvia Ji, I am going to celebrate Sluttoween this year as a Day of the Dead bride. I had originally planned to continue my now 3-year tradition of being the biggest celebwhore/tabloid fixture of the year with a nod to Jersey Shore's resident Oompa Loompa, Snooki, but vetoed the idea when I realized wearing 2007's Amy Winehouse wig with a metallic, leopard print slut dress and slippers didn't pose a great enough challenge, and I would be very cold.

The work of Sylvia Ji provides ample reference for makeup:

I also found this Youtube video that does a fantastic job of showing how to achieve the look step-by-step:

Hopefully, the finished product looks something like this picture that's been sitting in my inspiration folder for at least a year now:

I already own the perfect full, colorful skirt, and today I picked up an embroidered blouse for $4 at a thrift store. Now I just need a fringed shawl/jacket, some flowers for my hair, and some Kryolan makeup (the MAC shit is way to expensive).

What are your halloween plans, dear readers?

wearing thrifted jeans, vintage belt, Zara shoes, Gap t-shirt, Calvin Calvin Klein blazer, the usual jewelry

We have once again been plunged into a cold, foggy abyss. Oh summer, I hardly knew ye.

Been wearing these high waisted skinny jeans nonstop since I picked them up at Painted Bird last weekend. $16 bucks for a basically brand-new pair of jeans is a pretty sweet deal. They fit like a glove.

Aaand, I got a glycolic peel on Tuesday! Hurts like a bitch, but I'm enjoying the results and haven't worn foundation since. Anyone who's never had one done, I highly recommend it because it (relatively cheaply) fixes everything from acne and enlarged pores to wrinkles. It's the great cure-all. I went to Felicia Gelardi skincare in SF because I had a Groupon from my mom, and she was wonderful. I'll definitely be going back which means--surprise!--I've fallen in love with yet another expensive hobby. Awesome.
