2 easy pieces

You know what your Monday needs? Pictures of me pretend-reading and staring into the upper right corner of the ceiling:

Really though, I'm just showing off the lovely doily on my back courtesy of my sister (thanks, Rach!) from my favorite vintage store south of the Mason Dixon line, Lili Vintage in New Orleans. I was having trouble styling it until I realized it doesn't need any styling at all. Any item of clothing that would be quite at home in the Dowager Countess of Grantham's drawing room can stand on its own.

Also very happy I finally caved and got these Sam Edelman suede ankle boots. As predicted, they've become closet MVPs because they're insanely comfortable and go with goddamn everything.

kickin it

wearing shoes from Pixie Market (I forget the brand), Zara pants, Madewell denim shirt, Roxy jacket, vintage fur stole, "faux-leciaga" bag

God I love these shoes. They do this miraculous thing to your legs that actually makes them look longer, even though the shoes only have like a 3/4" heel. Bonus that I can extract my pinkie toe from them and up the creep factor in a completely subtle, yet terrifying way.

double duty cords

IMGP3153 IMGP3147 IMGP3144

top outfit: James Jeans cords, LL Bean striped breton shirt, thrifted denim jacket, Topshop fur gilet, Madewell scarf, vintage ring, Timex watch. Second outfit: James Jeans cords, J. Crew wool long-sleeved shirt, T by Alexander Wang sweater, scarf from India, UO booties

Or make that triple, quadruple duty. I just knew I had a skinny corduroy-shaped hole in my closet, and the recent acquisition of this pair (followed by wearing them for a week straight) really drove the point home. Found them on Gilt Groupe after exhausting myself in the search for cheaper possibilities. They have fake front pockets (yuck) but other than that are nearly perfect. And comfy as a pair of leggings, minus the camel toe.

Also, just had to share the perfect Valentine's day card from my boyfriend. If you know us, you know how apt this card is. If you don't, let me assure you, it is very apt.

Summer is, I guess, officially over. But it really just started in San Francisco, which is why it suddenly feels appropriate to post these pictures from my visit to New Orleans in May. New Orleans, the city of myriad enchantments, including the fabled Hand Grenade, a radioactive green drink made from the fermented juice of god-knows-what. Fact: if you have too many of these, your vomit will be the exact same color. I hate them, but I had to subject Wardell to their grossness for his inaugural trip. It's a rite of passage.

Love this dress. I've also worn it here, here, and here. It's always a sad day when I have to officially retire it to the "out of season" box under my bed.

I CAN'T. It's too fucking good.

ps
No, these pictures are not taken with my new camera (yet!) I still need to figure out how to to connect it to my computer to download the pictures. I will enlist boyfriend's help post haste to remedy this situation.

what i wore: wedding

Just spent a fantastic long weekend in San Diego visiting my boyfriend's friends and family. On Saturday we went to the wedding for two of his oldest friends and I finally wore my vintage YSL dress from Lili Vintage in New Orleans. I bought it years ago when I was still living there and it's probably like, the most excellent purchase I've ever made because well, duh, it's YSL and it's so goddamn classic I could cry.

jump

wearing vintage dress (last seen here), Nordstrom sweater, Zara flats, vintage crinoline

I've been wearing this dress since I was 16 years old and I love it--literally--to pieces. Today both of the threadbare straps broke and I found out the bodice seams are holding on by a thread. That's some sad shit for real.

I was able to make the skirt cartoonishly full by wearing my vintage crinoline and (since I don't have a half-slip to protect my skin from the itchiness) this floral full skirt underneath. It looked pretty rad if I don't say so myself.

Who's ready for the weekend?

people notice things

wearing Michael Kors skirt, Urban Outfitters blouse, vintage belt, vintage cuff and bracelet,
Urban outfitters tights, and H&M shoes

The spontaneous friendliness of strangers never ceases to amaze me. Today on my way home from work, some random dude driving a delivery truck opened up his door and yelled, "Hey! Those are nice shoes," to which I replied 'thanks,' and then the light turned green and that was the end of our encounter. Thanks, random dude. I'll always remember you fondly.

shitkicker boots

bootsdress
wearing vintage Frye boots, thrifted dress, unknown tights, Calvin Klien cardigan

Yesterday's outfit involved what is admittedly a dress version of a Hawaiian shirt (last seen here) and my absolute favorite boots. Shoeshine people literally chase me down the street trying to get their hands on these. I have to explain that the scuffs add character.

Frye has actually been making this "campus boot" since the Civil War. Soldiers on the Confederate and Union sides wore it, and the same style was reissued in the 1970's. What amazes me is that something designed 150 years ago still passes as fashionable. Now that's what I call good design.
