gaga

Photobucket

Every Halloween, I dress up as the years' biggest celebrity whore. In 2007 that distinction went to Amy Winehouse and in 2008 Kim Kardashian (and her gigantic ass) received the honor. This year I've got my sights set on GaGa. It's not so much that I think it's an original idea--just that I'm going to do it better than everyone else.

For me Halloween isn't so much about dressing up like a slut (who am I kidding, yes it is) as an opportunity to get in touch with my inner drag queen and do something out-of-character like smoke cigarettes out of a cigarette holder and wear a really bad wig in public.

Here's a picture of me in New Orleans last year as Kim K. with all my college buddies. They are L to R: ipod commercial, crazy cat-lady from The Simpsons, ghetto promgoer, and David Bowie from the Labyrinth. If you want to know why white people love Halloween so much, you can read about it here.

What is everyone doing for Halloween? It's safe to tell me because I already know what I'm going to be...and we don't even know each other in real life. So spill it.

fall back

It was colder today. And pitch black by 7:30. I'm trying to use these street style shots to gear up for fall.

On a semi-related note (in the sense that The Hills is related to everything) is anyone else queefing over the fact that the season premiere of The Hills starts in 10 minutes? And that this half hour of pure fictional magic will be followed by a half-hour of The City? I think my head just exploded and a bunch of rainbows and unicorns spilled out.

Tuesday nights just got less sucky.

Tavi's Pop editorial. Please sign me up for her bone structure. She's such a beautiful young woman!

I assume if you don't live under a smelly, damp rock, you know who she is, but just in case:

i heart it

top L to R: Prada, Roksanda Ilincic
center: D&G
bottom L to R: Burberry, Basso & Brooke

Loving these looks from the Spring Collections. The Most Wearable award (and most likely to be ripped off quite well by Zara) is also the season's crowd-pleaser: Burberry. The pastels feel fresh and the socks with heels are sort of casually brilliant.

Most Interesting obviously goes to Roksanda Ilincic. I shudder to think how many endangered California Condors had to die to create those massive feather shoulders, but imagine how impressive THAT would look if you were wearing it on the street. I'd feel like some kind of superhero.

Also loving Kid Cudi's new album. It may be one of my favorites of the past few years. Fucking flawless.

This is a good song:

well played chloe sevigny

It's not that I love this dress, because honestly, styled in a more mundane fashion, (or worn by the snooze-worthy Jennifer Aniston or Renee Zellweger) it wouldn't be that special. But on CHLOE, with the yellow slip underneath, the gold brooch at the hip, the red lips, and the delightfully bare face and tousled hair, it's seriously turning me on.

Who were your Emmy favorites?

I hopped on a magic carpet and floated down to LA this weekend to my friend Ashton's art show (check out her website here). She was generous enough to give me and my roommate (we've all been best friends since high school) a painting each. I can't wait to get them up on the walls. My apartment needs some therapy and these might be just the ticket.

In the meantime here are some pictures of the festivities. I'm finally wearing this cutout number I got eons ago at a thrift store. If people were shocked by my sudden resemblance to Kim KardASSian (see picture above), they did a good job of hiding it. It has come to my attention that I look like a double-wide in this dress. Must reconsider ban on exercise.

the shoes that could have been

I was in Napa/St. Helena today and finally got around to checking out Footcandy where I saw/held/caressed the thigh-high Louboutin boots I've been queefing over for the past month. But, while the shoes were delightful (and I tried on a seriously comfortable pair of Proenza Schouler heels from SS09 that were 50% off) I left empty-handed, in no small part because the sales woman was being a salty-ass no-fun-having Bitch. I just don't get it. WTF are you doing in the service industry if the sight of customers fills you (visibly) with a quiet, seething disdain? I believe there is a place for people like you, and it's called the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Has anyone ever walked away from something they wanted because the sales help were being a-holes? I have to say I don't expect much, other than an acknowledgment of my presence when I walk in the door and a willingness to help me retrieve sizes. Don't act like I'm pawing through the personal items in your closet.

The whole day reminded me of this:

I'm not sure who this Amber Rose person is. Or why she insists on wearing jumpsuits that strangle her lady-parts. But she's everywhere. Check out this editorial styled by the Big Gay Fish himself, Kanye West, for the upcoming issue of Elle. Whaddya think? Is it as disastrous as his first attempt at video direction (don't click this link if you have taste or decency) or should he stick to writing caps-laden blog rants? I'm on the fence.

left behind

wearing: Gap tee, Zara pants, Made by Elves Shoes, Christian Dior sunglasses

Yes, it's true. There is a fashion-week-shaped hole in my heart.

Moving on...

This weekend I found the perfect drapey wrap cardigan on sale for $20, and tried on the most GORGEOUS Maison Martin Margiela nail-heel booties at Harputs Market. They were like, on sale. For $400. Which is possibly only $399 outside of my budget.

Photobucket

The silver lining in all of this sad, no-Maison-Martin-Margiela-buying-weekend is that I'm hopping into a rented Chevy Aveo on Friday and heading down to LA to see a friends' art show. It'll be a short trip but a much needed one, considering I've pretty much worked 7 days a week for the past four months. Luckily I'll have my iphone shoved up my ass the whole time so it'll be like not missing work at all! Nothing like technology to turn you into a boring-ass-workaholic who doesn't pay attention and is incapable of living in the moment. I look forward to this transformation. I'm sure my friends do too.

Happy week everybody.

lbd (long black dress)

PhotobucketPhotobucket

I've entertained the idea of wearing a long black dress ever since I came across the image above on La Garconne's website. Actually I had nearly forgotten about it until I saw this version of a slinky, maxi-tank dress at Target for $25 bones last week. It's a synthetic blend, so it even drapes nicely. Take that Alex Wang. You and your $90 tank dresses can suck it (unless you want to gift me one, in which case, I think we all know the reason I'm hating on your superior version is because I refuse to afford it.) Anyhoo, that is neither here nor there. I'm excited about pairing this piece with chucks and a shrunken motorcycle jacket for fall.

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Got my hair cut today. A little off the sides = not a very exciting change, but I'm having fun with it in its current 'longish' incarnation. Still imagining what it would be like with a few strategically placed extensions for thickness. Still balking at the price of that improvement.

Photobucket

Oh, and finally, just because I'm a spoiled little b-hole, this is the D&G blouse I found at Nordstrom Rack this weekend. It's a real dish. Hugs in all the right places and then flares out at the waist like a chiffon, leopard-print tuu tuu. It's lovely.

I will be rocking out to "Obsessed" by Mariah Carey all week.

All looks, Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony Fall 2009

I often find myself digging into my boyfriend's closet for perfectly worn-in tees and slouchy cardigans. I know I'm not alone. How much sweeter would it be to reach into his closet one day and find all the perfectly androgynous looks above? Honey, are you listening?

LOL at the fact that the models above even kind of look like us. Does this mean it's meant to be??

she wolf

Top: photo by Bruno Dayan

I'm rather of fond of wolves. And thigh-high hooker boots (duh). And Shakira, even if she does make Eurotrash club music. I can't exactly explain it, but her new song 'She Wolf' does not make me want to smash my head repeatedly against a wall. Inexplicably. And I do believe those are crystal encrusted Balmain sandals she's wearing...
