There isn't much anything better than sitting around in a park on an early fall day in San Francisco. I had the pleasure of experiencing just such a day a couple of weekends ago when my sister and her boyfriend were in town from New Orleans. This was armageddon weekend in SF. It was a...penta-fecta (if I may coin a term) of the Giants playing at AT&T park, The Castro Street fair, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Fleet Week, AND the Blue Angels air show. This resulted in a grand cluster fuck of people in nearly every corner of the city as well as a dearth of transportation options. I think it took me 2 1/2 hours to get home on the bus. Good thing I saw my sister SO IT WAS WORTH IT.

well shucks

Spent my Sunday shucking oysters at the Tomales Bay Oyster Co. Yes, I'm really into making bad puns lately. And peplum tops.

I'm not sure what's the most awesome part of these pictures from our 4th of July trip to Sonoma: the fact that Wardell looks like Captain Ron (ironically??) or the fact that this amazing dog Bruno was there and we totally hung out with him and he is such a little buddy. OR the fact that I am in the best outfit ever, one that combines two of my favorite things: warm weather dressing and thematic dressing (red, white, and blue baby).

Thematic warm-weather dressing rules. Also, weenie dogs rule.

I drove down to San Luis Obispo this weekend to visit one of my oldest friends who just got engaged. In between lots of ring oohhhing and ahhhing and debating the merits of matching vs. slightly different bridesmaids dresses, we also visited the estate they've picked out to get married next year--a charming property dotted with manzanita bushes and mismatched chandeliers hanging from the trees. It was the perfect location to debut this vivid striped skirt I found in a local thrift store a few weeks ago--and an awkward new signature pose. The Captain was here.

So the weather has recently taken a turn for the schizophrenic and given us 6 straight days of rain and wind, which has made this whole spring transition thing slightly complicated. Luckily my Hunter Wellies--which have become the de rigueur footwear for San Franciscans grappling with rain--stand in nicely with short dresses, tights, and socks. I just wish they didn't make my calves sweat so much.

ANYWAY, I'm crazy stoked about this new chair that I snagged for $45 bones off of Craigslist. It needs a little TLC, but doesn't smell like something died in it, so overall it's a major win!

treasure island

wearing LL Bean striped shirt, Acne jacket, UO jeans, vintage bag and shoes

Stuff white people like: going to flea markets just to take photos. Especially when you go with fellow bloggers (Bobby of Lens Caption and Devon of effortlesslii to be exact.) These were all taken on Treasure Island last weekend, which lies right smack dab in the middle of Oakland and San Francisco. I'd never actually been there before, but the monthly Treasure Island Flea market ended up being a must see--if only because it's a much smaller, more reasonably priced cousin of the Alameda Flea Market. And because of the view. We took took photos of the stunning city vista afforded us by an unusually clear day, and Wardell risked life and limb jumping repeatedly in the air so that we could get good shots of him. He's such a trouper.

Clothing note: finally snagged a pair of woven leather flats on Etsy. I heart them long time.

my weekend, instagrammed (predictably)

photo-3photo photo-2photo-1 photo-5photo-4

I've decided I'm going to devote myself full-time to becoming a flamboyant sculptural hat-wearing person. The hat I'm wearing above was originally created in Warner Brothers' costume department, and I like to think it may once have graced the famous noggin of Joan Crawford or some other silver screen legend. It comes from my absolute favorite vintage/consignment store in the world, What Poppy Wants in Larkspur, CA. I've written about the place before and have gotten more amazing pieces there than I can count. The owner, Valerie, didn't even want to sell this hat, so she'd set a price of $425...which she quickly reduced (drastically) because she knew I'd make it a good home. I heart her long time.

Nails are actually from a couple of weeks ago (but I never got around to posting them) and the candy is just one of the delightful offerings on display at Miette in Hayes Valley.

The magical forest-scape is from a hike I went on with my mom on Saturday in my nascent quest for a healthy lifestyle. Because let's be honest, I'm not going on another cleanse anytime soon.

And finally, I just had to show some of the beautiful little tchotchkes at Reliquary, which is a store whose aesthetic I'm absolutely obsessed with. They're all pocket knives, handmade in New Mexico.

So tell me lovelies, what pretty (or not-so-pretty) things did you do this weekend?

It finally got warm enough to take one of my new flea market finds for a test drive. Actually, scratch that, I've worn the shirt once already over a turtleneck. I found it in LA at the Melrose Trading Post, and loved it so much I broke my own rule of never buying polyester. Oh, and the $12 price tag didn't hurt either.
