shitkicker boots

bootsdress
wearing vintage Frye boots, thrifted dress, unknown tights, Calvin Klien cardigan

Yesterday's outfit involved what is admittedly a dress version of a Hawaiian shirt (last seen here) and my absolute favorite boots. Shoeshine people literally chase me down the street trying to get their hands on these. I have to explain that the scuffs add character.

Frye has actually been making this "campus boot" since the Civil War. Soldiers on the Confederate and Union sides wore it, and the same style was reissued in the 1970's. What amazes me is that something designed 150 years ago still passes as fashionable. Now that's what I call good design.

wearing thrifted, borrowed, and vintage jewelry, F21 rings, "infiniti scarf" from Ross Dress for Less, Banana Republic cardigan

Old outfit from a couple of weeks back. I love this maxi dress to pieces and I've been on the lookout for another one. I'd love this option from Nastygal but somehow paying $58 for what is essentially an extra-long glorified t-shirt doesn't seem to make very good financial sense. Am I wrong?

familiar face

Recognize this gorgeous ginger-colored girl?

It's Nicole from America's Next Top Model Cycle 13! Apparently winning ANTM isn't professional anathema.

I did actually think she took some really beautiful photos during that cycle.

AND I finally got the bejeweled nails of my dreams with Asako at Nail Art House, which turned out to be a makeshift "salon" set up in the thick of the Lolita section of a clothing store in Japan Town. It's as amazing as it sounds, and obvs, you can see the result is nothing short of jaw-dropping perfection:

If you live in the Bay Area and want your nails bedazzled by a true artiste, I highly recommend Asako!! I'll definitely be going back. I have a feeling this is going to become a new expensive hobby--you know, along with my caviar face masks and mink-lined underwear.

they say my shoe game is crazy the mental asylum lookin' for me

The only JC I believe in is Jeffrey Campbell. Amen to that.

Also, I'm getting Calgels done on Saturday and have been feverishly scouring the internets for a design that will suit my need for color, sparkle, and 3d texture without costing me a fortune. Calgels are expensive as shit--each little gem can cost like $3. Thus, the design must be able to convey 'a lot going on' without actually having a lot going on.

Here's my nail porn inspiration board:

And here's what my nails look like now--no Calgel, just one coat of OPI somethingorother and another coat of OPI Mad as a Hatter on just the tips. Kinda looks worn out now because I got them done a week ago, but you get the drift (Did you hear me? I said I got these done a WEEK ago. If for some strange reason, you ever find yourself in Corte Madera, CA wondering where to get an awesome $12 manicure, go to Siciliano Nails and tell them Joanna sent you)

your outfit looks confused

Dude, my new office has a patio--where I can totally sneak outside and take pictures on my timer and pray to god that no one sees me. Win!

I'm sort of infatuated with this fugly-ass shirt (last seen here) I got for $12. I had imagined wearing it tucked into a high waisted fitted pencil skirt, but unexpectedly found that it lends itself to full-skirted florals as well.

wearing vintage shirt, F21 skirt, Zara sweater, Urban Outfitters boots

The Urban Outfitters boots ended up being as comfy and versatile as I hoped they would be, which means I'm definitely going to wear them all the time and thrash the shit out of them. Pretty good buy for $58.

Just finished watching the homage to disaffected 90's youth culture known as The Craft. I SO wanted to be Neve Campbell in this movie. The year was 1996...I had started experimenting with fishnets, I bought a pair of steel-toe Doc Martens, and soon thereafter, there would be an unfortunate incident involving Indian ink, a safety pin, and a Pentagram. I'm also relatively sure I had Kurt Cobain's suicide note pinned to my wall. I was weird. But very consciously so in that transparent and shallow teenage way.

At any rate, I've thoroughly enjoyed my trip down memory lane. And I wouldn't want to be 13 again for anything in the world.

wearing vintage dress, crinoline, and shoes, sweater from La Rok, belt from Urban Outfitters

Somehow mother's day seemed the perfect opportunity to wear head-to-toe vintage. You've seen this dress here, here, and here, but it's such an amazing piece I thought it was worthy of a fourth homage. The shoes are from the '40s and I never wear them because they're so delicate, but I bought them at a vintage expo a couple of years ago. The crinoline constitutes part of my latest haul from Lili Vintage in New Orleans. And the sweater is a Lohemann's purchase from a gazillion years ago. Literally a gazillion. Remember when La Rok was cool? Yeah, it was a long time ago.

True story: I ate so much I literally split the seam of this dress after dinner. It's fixable, but offers concrete proof of my gluttony. Concrete proof I could have done without.
