IMGP2848 IMGP2847 what i wore to dinner: vintage dress, Louboutin shoes, TJ Maxx necklace

On Friday I got home from work and found that my car was missing. With a sinking feeling in my chest, I searched the blocks around my apartment, hoping that I'd eventually run into it and think, "duh, I forgot I parked there." Eventually I came to the realization that unless the car had taken itself for a drive, it had indeed been stolen. So I spent the better part of Friday night calling the police, waiting for them to come and take a report, and finally trying to convince them that identifying characteristics of my car--which include Louisiana brake tags and a number of angry liberal bumper stickers--were details worth writing down in their little notebooks. So in short, there's some asshole riding around in my 2000 Nissan Altima with 175,000 miles on it. And the police aren't going to do a goddamn thing except call me if they find it and give me 20 minutes to get to the location to pick it up or they'll charge me $300 to tow it to an impound lot.

Oh, and Friday was also my 29th birthday.

But fret not! In spite of the whole car theft incident, the weekend was awesome. I spent it at the Tonga Room with friends on Saturday and then went to dinner with my parents tonight. I think 29 will actually be a kick-ass year. As soon as I get a new car.

death is like traveling abroad

A friend's baby shower on Sunday yielded the perfect opportunity to don a cold war-era dress and vertiginous heels completely unsuitable for walking in. Baby showers are also a convenient excuse to drink before 12pm.

Also, my grandfather died on Friday at the ripe old age of 102. Back at the funeral in Phoenix, my dad delivered the eulogy and read this quote from Marcel Proust that's been occupying my mind ever since:

"People do not die for us immediately, but remain bathed in a sort of aura of life which bears no relation to true immortality but through which they continue to occupy our thoughts in the same way as when they were alive. It is as though they were traveling abroad."

Safe travels, Papa.

Just a few lovely pictures to help cure the Monday night blues.

BTW, I'm loving all the links you guys submitted for the giveaway. So glad I didn't just do something boring like pick names out of a hat. May the best man win (cool stuff from BB Dakota and Love Quotes). And if you haven't entered yet, it's not too late.

Make no mistake, my Louboutins are about as tragically uncomfortable as they are beautiful, but they're oh-so-worth it. I've been a little obsessed with keeping the bottoms from getting scuffed, and therefore they haven't gotten as much wear as they rightfully deserve. But all that is going to change because I realize how stupid it is to have spent a month's rent on something that remains in my closet looking amazing when they should be on my feet looking amazing.

Thank you, Rihanna, for reminding me that beautiful things are meant to be worn and not just ogled.

bloopers

Combing through the archives, I found these photos that never made it to the blog. As you can probably imagine, the selection process is extremely difficult because I look so fucking good in every single picture. It's practically a curse.

In other non-news: I sold my first item on Ebay--a Lenovo laptop that I pretty much got for free when my old company bit the Big One. I resold it for a pretty sum, and now I've got some monies burning a hole in my pocket. I'm hoping it won't get consumed by lame grownup shit like car repairs so that I can buy myself something real nice because goddamn, I deserve it, (and I need something to fill the empty black hole in my no-heart). Anyone with too much time on their hands is welcome to suggest purchases which might warrant spending a little more than my usual amount.

same dress, different day

There must be some kind of a de facto ban on doing 2 nearly consecutive outfit posts wearing the exact same outfit. Too bad I'm a maverick! Ew, icky connotation. Ok, I'm a trailblazer. And besides, if I could wear this dress for seven days straight, I would. Watch me!

I ate a delicious meal tonight (lobster pasta in lobster cream sauce!) in honor of Mother's Day. Funny story, actually. I got this gift certificate to a restaurant called Bix like 2 years ago from my work. I never actually used it, so when I was really strapped for cash a couple of months ago, I sold it to my dad. Yeah, I know, it's pathetic. But I got $150 and then got invited to dinner anyway. Being a semi-spoiled Jewish princess ain't half bad. I highly recommend it.

Going into work tomorrow (even though my official start date isn't until a week from Monday) to meet Ashton Kutcher's marketing team. I think this job and I are going to get along just fine...

Hope everyone's weekend was lovely!

blue suede shoes

Wearing: Target l/s tee, thrifted bodycon skirt, Betsey Johnson tights, Banana Republic cuff, Christian Louboutin shoes.

This is what I wore to the museum the other day. Well, if we're going to get technical, I didn't actually wear my Louboutins to the museum because I don't have android feet like Victoria Beckham, which means I happen to feel the impact of standing/walking in 5 inch heels, even if they do have a small hidden platform! Don't get me wrong. I would do anything to have the nerves in my feet surgically severed so I could trot across cobblestones in 6 inch skyscrapers like it ain't no thang. But alas, I think I may be cursed with particularly fickle, bitchy feet, so for now these babies are "going out to dinner shoes" only.

Fun fact: I bought these last year with my economic stimulus payment, or as I was fond of calling it, my government handjob money. Worked like a charm. I hope everyone got around to spending theirs.
