sugar skulls

Deeply inspired by the work of artist Sylvia Ji, I am going to celebrate Sluttoween this year as a Day of the Dead bride. I had originally planned to continue my now 3-year tradition of being the biggest celebwhore/tabloid fixture of the year with a nod to Jersey Shore's resident Oompa Loompa, Snooki, but vetoed the idea when I realized wearing 2007's Amy Winehouse wig with a metallic, leopard print slut dress and slippers didn't pose a great enough challenge, and I would be very cold.

The work of Sylvia Ji provides ample reference for makeup:

I also found this Youtube video that does a fantastic job of showing how to achieve the look step-by-step:

Hopefully, the finished product looks something like this picture that's been sitting in my inspiration folder for at least a year now:

I already own the perfect full, colorful skirt, and today I picked up an embroidered blouse for $4 at a thrift store. Now I just need a fringed shawl/jacket, some flowers for my hair, and some Kryolan makeup (the MAC shit is way to expensive).

What are your halloween plans, dear readers?

  6. You know what? I just specially got on the Internet (the insurance company is taking it's time paying out for my poor stolen laptop) to find out what you were going to wear for hallowe'en!! Snooki would have been hilarious but this will look incredible! I can't wait to see the finished look. Your blog is one of the things I miss the most whilst lacking a computer! Hope you're good! :) x
