My taste in home furnishings--like my taste in clothing-- tends to be eclectic and lean towards a vintage aesthetic. Like clothing, furniture made in olden times is simply better quality, so I'd rather have that cute mid-century modern table from the thrift store than a brand-new one from Target.
While I know the process of collecting new items will be a slow, arduous one, I've already found some gems. They are pictured below for your enjoyment:
2. This table was not nearly as cute when I found it at Salvation army for $12. We spray-painted the 2 table-tops mint green and left the legs natural, and I enlisted Wardell's help to repair some of the corners with wood putty. Good as new!
3. This side table was another Salvation Army find (I think I paid about $30 for it) and the lamp was the find of the century for $18 at a charity shop. The shade alone must be worth $100. I'm thinking of repainting the white part of the table but I'm not sure what color, given the fact that the upper-half of the living room walls are red. I need input!
4. Not really home decor, but I just wanted to show off how cute my jewelry collection looks now that it has a home on 2 branch hooks I got on sale at Urban Outfitters. I'd been wanting to do this forever, but couldn't find real branches sturdy enough for the job. I guess powder-coated metal ones work just as well...
This weekend I'm helping my best friend Tara move into my place (sooo excited), going to a show, celebrating a friends' birthday, and hopefully I'll fit a bike ride in there somewhere if this damn gale-force wind dies down. Have a great weekend, peeps!
loveeeeee this chair!
ReplyDeleteOh I definitely love this chair! I think you should not paint or retire any of these amazing furniture but if you think you should suggest to paint with neutral tones or try to innovate and who knows why not to exaggerate with shades of gold .. Wow would be nice is not it? Old gold to create a climate Vintage! :)
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend baby!
XOXO, Jamily.
Yes the chair is awesome, love the structure and uhpolstery. Actually everything is very nice
ReplyDeleteI think the end table with drawers is beautiful as is, like the contrast of dark and white! BTW, check out Ms. Butterfly's favorite movies.... :)
ReplyDeleteOMG it's SO much more fun to FIND great and unique pieces rather than buying them from a catalog where everything looks the same. Vintage shopping is not on cheaper, more fabulous, unique and fun ...it's GREEN.
ReplyDeleteYou're gonna have so much fun! ...I'm so jonesing to decorate but I don't have the house yet.
Happy Weekend!
I LOVE this post....its like a sneap peak into your life. And adore all theexhibits, particularly that lamp (what a find!) and the Urban Outfitter jewellery branches. I have mine on an Ikea hanging stand but have suddenly realised I NEED branches ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend.
Hello darling, thank you for your comment.
ReplyDeleteAmazing pure post! Have a great weekend,
FM~FP
Gorgeous collection of things! I'm obsessed with interiors but because I live in crappy student halls I can't really do anything exciting with the surroundings. I would say keep the wood on the chair nice and light - it looks pretty like that! I can't wait to have a proper place of my own! I hope I have as much luck with finds as you.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes a tripod would be amazingly useful, and I'll never stop spending my money on junk despite the piggy bank - just cant help myself. :) x
Thank you for your sweet comment!
ReplyDeleteThe first picture is great, everything works and that clothing hanger is so cool!
I also really like your bedside table.
Enjoy the moving in and decorating :D
x!
I absolutely loooove your chair, just staining the wood sounds like a good idea. The first picture is lovely too although I'd never be able to keep my place so pristine.
ReplyDeletelovely finds! That chair would look great in a distressed white:)
ReplyDeletewhat amazing finds! this post is inspiring me to go to my salvation army!!
